The most challenging and valuable part of transforming this nearly thirty-year-old villa was resolving the structural problems that had developed over time. Water ingress in the basement was addressed with negative waterproofing; although this extended the construction period, it was essential to the long-term integrity of the building.
Following a brief prepared for a family of four, a timeless design language was adopted with the intention of remaining relevant for years. The living and dining areas were shaped as generous spaces where the family could spend time together; the kitchen was organised around a functional layout, while the bedrooms and bathrooms follow a consistent, calm language.
An attempt to introduce a lift into the three-storey house could not be realised because of structural constraints; it remains the project’s one openly recorded unmet objective.
